This box
made of woven bamboo, was designed with a close-fitting lid to store
personal items such as money, jewelry or other valuables. The basket
received several layers of lacquer to add strength and make it
water-proof. This box
has designs incised on the sides and the top. Lacquer was a popular gift to foreign envoys from members of the Burmese court and were used to store royal jewels, letters, and sacred Buddhist manuscripts. This beauty is in excellent condition and wonderful for hiding your favorite trinkets.
