These Afghan Pashtun vintage embroidery pieces are a reminder that
Afghanistan has been at the heart of the Silk Road for
centuries. Tiny embroidered silk stitching form the bold and
colorful designs that are stitched on silk backgrounds. These were
often used as mats to serve tea on. Pashtun nomad tribeswomen
have embroidered these striking symmetrical designs in a very tight
ladder-stitch for generations.
