I am obsessed with tulu rugs from Turkey. These Turkish shag rugs (Tulu) are hand knotted using curly goat hair on a wool kilim like carpet. I love how shiny the hair is, and how vibrant the colors are. Originally because of the long soft hair they were used as mattresses or blankets for warmth. Today, however, like many old crafts their availability is dwindling. While in Turkey I spend time each visit with my good friends Mehmet and Murat who have a similar love for tribal yet timeless pieces and keep aside a small group like these for me to bring home.
