  Artisan Batik

Alternative Views:

Embracing a process from the 17th or 18th centuries, these works of art from an influential Bali artist incorporate contemporary design in the ancient technique of Batik. Wax melted then is hand drawn or stamped onto a piece of cloth. Once the wax hardens it becomes dye resistant, leaving the cloth underneath unaffected by the dye. The wax is removed by boiling the cloth, then reapplied and dyed again. This is repeated until the desired pattern is achieved.
These rare finds work well as a drape over weathered wood, a rod of plexi-glass, stainless steel—or in front of the brick wall in a loft
