The wonder of Ikat lies in the complex technique used to create them. Unlike batiks, where dyes are applied to an existing textile, Ikats use threads that are dyed beforehand, bound, sectioned, and immersed in the dyes. The bound sections don’t absorb the pigment and are repositioned for each new color. These patterns must be planned in advance and then hand-woven on a loom into an Ikat. Drape across your bed, across your table or stunning as a wall hanging.
