Burmese Lacquer Betel Box No.1

Traditionally these compartmentalized boxes were used to hold the various materials used to make fresh betel quids. Guests would be presented with a fully stocked box containing the makings of a tasty quid or paan. A typical box would have separate compartments for sliced areca nuts, fresh betel leaf and various spices such as cardamom, fennel, saffron and lime powder. As with all antiques there a signs of loving wear and tear.
