Burmese Lacquer Box No. 1

This box has designs incised on the sides and the top. Lacquer was a popular gift to foreign envoys from members of the Burmese court and were used to store royal jewels, letters, and sacred Buddhist manuscripts. As with all antiques there are signs of loving wear and tear. There are minor scratches present on the exterior as well as surface cracks consistent with its age.
