Burmese Lacquer Box No. 4

This antique lacquer box with gold elephant motifs was designed with a close-fitting lid to secure its contents. Lacquer was a popular gift to foreign envoys from members of the Burmese court and were used to store royal jewels, letters, and sacred Buddhist manuscripts. As with all antiques there are signs of loving wear and tear. This box is in particularly good shape.
