Maya Woman's Shawl No. 1

The women's shawl known as a perrajes in Mayan, or rebozo in Spanish, is a key piece of the traditional traje. In addition to providing warmth, these shawls are used as baby slings or head coverings and each village in Guatemala has there own unique style. It's typical to find perrajes with beautiful jaspe (or ikat) design work. This lovely predominately green shawl has been hand embroidered in Nebaj, Guatemala with geomorphic people and animal figures on one side with long soft silk like fringe.
