Kilim Soufreh Rug No. 7

A soufreh is a ceremonial eating cloth, used both indoors and outdoors in Turkey. They are an integral part of Turkish family life. Even in a city like Istanbul you still see families sitting in parks picnicking on a soufreh. The food is placed on the cloth with family and guests sitting cross legged around it usually eating from communal bowls. These rugs are 40-50 years old woven in warp and weft.
