During the onslaught of the Thanksgiving holiday sales in the U.S., I tend to forget about Small Business Saturday. Even though I primarily run The Loaded Trunk solo, I never think of The Loaded Trunk as a small business. Because of the depth of our inventory and because there's no brick and mortar store, I tend to forget that we're a small anything. I am, however, very proud to be a small business owner/solo-preneur and will be celebrating that fact every Saturday for the entire month of December, every year from here on out, a new tradition! So visit the shop and see what special pieces I've picked out for you. To all, I wish you a great holiday season!
I've been considering an upgrade to The Loaded Trunk website for over a year now. But when I thought about migrating thousands of items from one platform to another, it was not an easy decision. In fact, it was so overwhelming that I probably put it off for longer than I should have. How was this going to affect my inventory? My sales? How could I manage this project while keeping my business rolling along? There were a lot of reasons why I should have stayed put (mainly because it was easiest!). After another coding issue disrupted my (old) site for what felt like the millionth time, we finally made the move. It was nerve-wracking, but I was ready. I had to do it.
Moving to Shopify included a huge learning curve, but it has made everything so much easier, both for my team and for me. We're so excited to (finally) share the new and improved Loaded Trunk site with you. Here are some things we made better:
1. The images are larger site wide. Everything from to the homepage slider (a new feature!) to the product images has gotten bigger and easier to view. This is such a huge thing for me. Our pieces are so detailed in their craftsmanship and now you'll really be able to see it.
2. We've reorganized! Shopify made organizing products into categories easy peasy. We were able to play around with our groupings to get it just right. It should be a breeze to browse and shop now.
3. We added a Global Style & Inspiration page. The Look Book can be found there along with our favorite style shots. We've worked with some pretty great photographers and stylists over the past few years and we're so glad we can showcase their work in one space.
4. Improved search and view options. Better shopping. Easier shopping. Enough said.
Have you encountered this image? We hope not! We've been working really hard to make this transition as smooth as possible but there is a slight chance we missed something. If you find this page we'd love it if you let us know so we can fix the problem.
Take a look around and tell us what you think!
As our train pulled into the station at Jodhpur, 4 hours late, we were met by the hotel's driver. And from our lovely hotel, an old haveli, I sit writing this. the Ratan Vilas is a veritable oasis within the equally chaotic (though much smaller) city of Jodphur. I cannot help but feel like an ugly Westerner as I retreat back to my hotel...
Little by little, I am ferreting out cool pieces from flea markets and adding some "new " looks to my space. Since I work from home so much, I have been wanting to change things up I'm spending a bit little time to put some love into my surroundings. In my world that means DIY projects. My first project was to find a fantastic lamp to swag over my dining room table. I love to mix it up. I have such an eclectic home that a little mid-century modern was just the right touch.
I have had quite a journey these last five years traveling and curating for The Loaded Trunk. In the early years my blogs were often written with more detail about the journey and often in collaboration with my sometime fellow traveler and daughter. As the online business grew it became more difficult to come up with creative and engaging topics to write about. People often live by sound bites so...
My mom celebrated another trip around the earth this year and I went out to pay her a little visit. She instilled the wanderlust and love for travel in me along with a passion for collecting things from around the world. In turn, I'm passing those things along to my own daughter. This is a little peek at some of the fun and beautiful things in her California home. What interests do you and your mom share?
