Maya Woman's Shawl No. 5

The women's shawl is known as a perrajes in Mayan or rebozo in Spanish is a key part of the traditional traje. These styles vary from village to village, as does the style of wearing them. Usually they are back-strap woven in one or two panels. It's typical to find perrajes with beautiful jaspe (or ikat) design work. This lovely red striped shawl has been hand embroidered in Nebaj, Guatemala with geomorphic people and animal figures on one side with long soft silk like fringe.
