Vietnamese Tribal Beaded Zeng Cloth

This long Ta Oi weaving from Vietnam took over a week to make on a back strap loom. The women sit on the the floor with the wrap of the loom stretched around their backs to a bamboo rod held by their feet. The Ta Oi are an ethnic minority people of central Vietnam numbering about 20,000 and are renowned for their basketry and weaving skills. Traditionally, Ta Oi women weave black cotton cloth with colored stripes with hundreds of beads woven into the fabric in various geometric patterns. It is with skill that they are made and we should honor this piece of art that is still produced today.
